It's a policy designed for people who own their home. It protects both the structure of the house (the buildings) and everything inside it (the contents), as well as your civil liability if you cause damage to other people.
Because if you like saving money, insuring your home is the best way to do it. Home insurance for owners isn't an expense, it's an investment: when you take it out, you're not just protecting your home, you're protecting what matters most to you.
You can also include high-value items, like jewellery, or things that matter for your work and free time, like your computer equipment. With cover such as theft and electrical damage, they'll be well protected.
Good home insurance for owners should protect your home from the most common incidents: water damage, theft, fire, weather events and so on. It should also cover you if you accidentally cause damage to others: that's called civil liability.
It's well worth having cover for uninhabitability, which covers you when you can't live in your home because of the damage, and the option to extend your assistance and cover. At Lovys, all our policies can be tailored to your needs and lifestyle.
The buildings are the structures and building materials of your home: everything that was there when it was handed over, plus anything added in renovations, improvements or refurbishments.
To calculate it, we look at the square metres, the type of home, the build quality, the materials and the area it's in. But don't worry: with Lovys, we calculate it automatically from the information you give us.
Value and list all your belongings at home at their market purchase price. To make sure you don't miss anything, go room by room and write down everything you want to insure.
Include everything from your furniture, appliances and lamps to valuables like jewellery or electronics. You might be tempted to shorten the list in case the premium gets too high, but remember this protection can save you a lot if something happens.
It's the amount you pay yourself if you make a claim. For example: with a €150 excess and €1,000 of compensation for water damage, you'll receive €850; the first €150 is on you. The higher the excess you choose, the lower your monthly payment.
Stay calm and don't take matters into your own hands, as it can make things worse. Call or go to the police as soon as you notice: the first 24–48 hours are key, because eviction doesn't need a court order then (it counts as breaking and entering).
After 48 hours, you will need a court order for the eviction, as well as a lawyer to handle the process. In our Complete plan, damage from vandalism and squatting is covered.
Lovys is a French insurtech founded in 2017 and operating in Spain since 2021. We're a digital insurance company making insurance fairer, more transparent and simpler. We create the product (here, our home insurance for owners), sell the policies and handle the claims, backed by the financial strength of Wakam, our insurer. So yes, you can absolutely trust Lovys.
With Lovys, home insurance for owners starts from €6/month. Cheap insurance doesn't have to mean less cover: we have no physical branches and we work with algorithms, which keeps our costs down and makes us more efficient.
Nothing could be easier. Click “Get a quote” and fill in the details: it won't take more than 2 minutes.
If you decide Lovys is for you, once you sign up and your policy is active, you can check your documents any time in your client space.
The first payment is made straight away, by credit card. After that, you can change your payment method from your client space.
Our home insurance is paid month by month and you can cancel whenever you like: you stay covered until the end of the month.
The difference is how much cover each plan offers. The Basic assistance pack is included in all 3 plans at no extra cost, and at the end of your purchase you can add the assistance pack you prefer (Basic, Essential or Comfort).
With all 3 plans you can customise contents, buildings, civil liability and the excess.
Let us know through your client space or the Lovys app (available on the App Store and Google Play). The steps are:
Remember to report the claim within 7 days of finding out about it. If you miss this deadline, you may be held liable for any loss caused by the late report.
To cancel your current policy, you need to tell your insurer one month before the renewal date (usually once a year). If your renewal is coming up, we can get started so you can join Lovys!
That's normal: there are a lot of them, and some are a bit complicated. In line with our simple, transparent approach, we've created a dictionary of the most common terms. Still something unclear? Write to us at support@lovys.com.
